2016 Syrah Sydhang - Dorli Muhr

2016 Syrah Sydhang – Dorli Muhr

Although Blaufränkisch is seen as the grape variety with the best potential in Austria by some consumers and winemakers, Austria is producing very good Pinot Noirs and Syrahs as well. The Weingut (Domaine) Dorli Muhr is producing excellent Syrahs. When served blind your first impression is “typical Syrah” and then you question yourself “is this Northern Rhone or not?”. Dorlis Syrahs are typically for this grape variety, very elegant and seductive, fresh and with good acidity. Thanks to the use of big wooden barrels the Syrah aromas (dark berries, black Olive notes, leather) are perfectly supported. This grape variety in Austria is often harvested after the Blaufränkisch grapes but due to the fact that the vines are grown on austere lime soil they stay fresh, precise and show no overripe aromas.

For all those who are Syrah addicted these wines are a must!

“Beautiful and aromatic nose, very classy Syrah. Dark and ripe black berries and black olive aromas. Vibrant acidity, black pepper and spicy on the palate. The tannins are present on the palate, good length and overall the wine is juicy and you’ll enjoy drinking it now. Very elegant, good and not too much sweetness which makes the 2016 very seductive. We recommend to keep the wines for some years in your cellar and when opening a bottle we would decant it. 92 May Points”
