Château de Beaucastel

The history of Beaucastel dates back a long way. In 1549, the Beaucastel family established their estate seven kilometers north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Winemaking has been documented since the 18th century. Since Beaucastel was taken over by the Perrin family in 1909, the estate has seen rapid success. Today, it is certainly one of the best producers in the southern Rhône.
The Perrins offer a solid range of wines across several AOCs from over 100 hectares of vineyards, covering all price ranges. As early as the 1950s, Jacques Perrin was practicing sustainable and careful vineyard management. The vines are intended to reach an average age of 50 years, which is quite a challenge given the strong winds (Mistral) that blow for 150 days a year. Biodynamics is certainly a logical way to strengthen the vines, allowing them to withstand various challenges.
The Miraval rosé project, bought by Pitt & Jolie, gained great fame. Beyond the headlines, the quality of the rosé is the real sensation. However, we are more interested in the magnificent Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the family, for which 13 different grape varieties are still used. Maximizing the allowed number of grape varieties for the AOC is primarily a great effort. The Perrins’ early commitment to biodynamics has also not gone unnoticed: under the leadership of Jean-Pierre and François, the family is a member of the exclusive association Primus Familiae Vini. Founded in 1991, it brings together just twelve families.
