Switzerland
Despite its small surface area, Switzerland has around 15,000 hectares of vineyards across six wine regions, including Valais, Vaud and Ticino. More than 200 grape varieties are permitted; the most important are Chasselas, Pinot Noir and Gamay. Specialities such as Heida and Petite Arvine enjoy a high reputation. Pinot Noirs from the Bündner Herrschaft are world-famous. A mild climate, alpine sites and varied soils create ideal conditions for characterful wines.
