Pomerol

It was the Belgians. Thanks to them, the wines from this 800-hectare appellation gained great renown in the early 20th century. A hundred years ago, Pomerol wines were bottled by Belgian merchants and exported to neighboring countries. This is how, in the 1950s, British wine merchants discovered the region’s most famous estate: Château Pétrus.

Few wineries symbolize opulent, magnificently rich, Merlot-dominated red wines as much as Pétrus, one of the most sought-after wines in the world. Like other top estates, Pétrus strictly limits its yields to maintain exceptional quality.

Interestingly, Pomerol is the only one of Bordeaux’s great wine regions that has no official classification! Yet, the unique style of this appellation can also be found in (slightly) lesser-known but equally remarkable estates. Le Pin, Lafleur, L’Église-Clinet, and L’Évangile are always worth the investment!
