Tempranillo
Tempranillo is Spain’s most important grape variety and the backbone of many classics. Its name derives from “temprano” (early), a reference to its early ripening. The main growing regions are Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Toro and La Mancha. Medium acidity, fine tannins and aromas of cherry, plum, tobacco and leather are typical. Oak ageing lends many of the wines vanilla and spice notes.
