Weine MasterClass Dialog. „Edition Obauer“ – Freitag, 17. Oktober 2025, 19:00 Uhr
Price: €650,- plus €250,- menu Restaurant Obauer
The dialogue between great wines and great cuisine is a universal language everyone understands. On this evening, the focus is therefore clearly on quality.
But do we always truly recognize the supposedly “greater wine” with the better terroir? Or, in the end, does it not depend far more on the quality of the grapes, the harvest time, and the care taken in the vineyard and the cellar?
To shed light on this question, we will place two different quality levels of Burgundy side by side. After all, a classification does not always reflect what one might expect. Vineyards such as Perrières in Meursault, Les Amoureuses in Chambolle-Musigny, or Clos St. Jacques in Gevrey-Chambertin, for example, have long enjoyed cult status, even though they are not officially classified as Grand Crus.
Terroir is not only vineyard and climate – the vigneron plays an equally decisive role. For this evening, we have selected an outstanding line-up of producers, including Coche-Dury, Sylvain Cathiard, Armand Rousseau, and G. Roumier.
As passionate admirers of Austrian wine, we have deliberately sought this comparison. The aim is not to ask whether Austria is better or worse, but rather to explore the fascinating question: How close can we come to the world’s most renowned region for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir? Or should the Austrian style instead remain independent and distinctive, without aspiring to a Burgundian ideal?
This extraordinary evening will be completed by the cuisine of Rudi and Karl Obauer. For decades, they have been among Austria’s very best, and their restaurant in the Salzburg Alps – awarded 2 Michelin stars and 5 Gault&Millau toques – is a true temple of gastronomy.
