Albert Grivault
Domaine Albert Grivault is one of the most renowned wine estates in the heart of Meursault, in the Côte de Beaune. Family-owned since 1879, the 6-hectare estate is now run by the fourth generation, Claire and Henri-Marc Bardet. The domaine is best known for its site-specific white wines from Meursault.
At the centre is the exclusive Clos des Perrières 1er Cru – Monopole, a parcel of just 0.95 hectares within the legendary Perrières vineyard, whose composition comes close to that of the Grand Cru Montrachet. It is no coincidence that there are calls to have the Clos upgraded to Grand Cru status. The precious terroir is treated with great care: the wines are aged for 18 months in French oak, with the proportion of new wood kept low and subtle at 20%.
Other top sites such as Meursault Perrières 1er Cru, Pommard Clos Blanc 1er Cru (Pinot Noir), and Clos du Murger – located directly behind the domaine – complete the portfolio. All wines are hand-harvested, traditionally vinified, and stand out for their precise minerality, intense fruit, and great ageing potential.
The history is also particularly noteworthy: after decades under lease, Michel Bardet reshaped the estate from the 1980s onwards – today, Domaine Grivault is regarded as a fixture for lovers of white Burgundy in particular.
Whether Grand Cru-worthy minerality or elegant fruit richness: those seeking characterful, long-lived Burgundy wines from Meursault will find outstanding quality in limited quantities at Domaine Albert Grivault (only around 5,000 bottles of Clos des Perrières are produced each year).
