92 The dark colored 2016 Carnuntum Sydhang is terribly intense on the nose, where ripe black berry aromas intermix with scents of leather and black pepper. This wine improves enormously with every minute in the glass, revealing flavors, freshness and finesse. It's a very juicy and perfectly ripe Syrah on the nose. On the palate, this is a straight but intense, very elegant, vital and astringent red with good concentration and freshness. It's dry and crunchy, without any artificial sweetness but with very good length and tension. This 2016 is one of the finest Syrahs I have tasted from this domaine and in all Austria. You should never have it without rare (beef) meat, though! Tasted in Vienna, September 2018.
